Kapsicum for Writers & Authors
You've already written it somewhere
The best sentence you wrote this week might be in a Google Doc, a Slack message, or a browser tab you closed yesterday. Kapsicum captures every word you type across every app on your Mac. When you need it, you search once.
Sound familiar?
The paragraph you can't findYou wrote something three days ago: a perfect opening line, the argument that tied everything together. Was it in a draft, a message, or a reply you typed and forgot about? You remember writing it. You don't remember where.
Text that didn't survive editingYou cut a paragraph during revision. Strong writing, just wrong for that section. A week later, it's exactly what chapter twelve needs. Undo history is gone. You'll rewrite it worse.
Research in a dozen placesA quote from a review. A statistic from an article. A link someone sent you in Slack. When you sit down to write, your material is in a dozen apps and no single search covers them all.
How Kapsicum Helps
Voice DictationDictate into any app: Scrivener, Word, Google Docs, a plain text file. No time limit. No internet required. Words appear at your cursor and are saved automatically.
Quick NotesPop a note, type or speak, close it. It lives alongside everything else you've written, instantly searchable.
Universal SearchSearch a phrase and find every place you've typed it, across every app, every day. The paragraph from last Tuesday. The note from last month. One search.
Real Workflows
Dictating a first draftOpen your manuscript, press the shortcut, speak. Words appear at your cursor. No time limit. No internet. When you stop, everything is already saved.
Finding something you wroteYou wrote about "the architecture of loneliness" last week. Search the phrase. Kapsicum shows you the app, the day, and the paragraph around it.
Recovering a cut paragraphYou removed a paragraph during revision. A week later, you realize it belongs in a different chapter. Search a few words. Kapsicum captured it when you typed it.
Frequently Asked Questions
How is Kapsicum's dictation different from built-in macOS Dictation?
Built-in Dictation routes audio to Apple's servers, has a time limit, and stops when you pause too long. Kapsicum runs transcription locally on your Mac: no internet, no time limit, no caps. You can optionally use cloud providers like OpenAI Whisper or Gemini with your own API keys for specialized vocabulary. The default is local.
Can I find text I typed even if I didn't save?
If you typed it, Kapsicum captured it. App, window, saved or not. Doesn't matter. This includes text lost to crashes, closed tabs, and accidental deletions. The capture happens at the keystroke level, before any app decides what to keep.
Does Kapsicum capture passwords or sensitive fields?
No. Password fields and secure text inputs are detected and skipped automatically. You can also exclude specific apps from capture entirely.
Where is my writing data stored?
On your Mac. AES-256 encrypted database, local filesystem. Manuscripts, notes, and drafts never leave your machine. Cloud transcription is opt-in and uses your own API keys. Not ours.
